Full Dentures

Full dentures are removable devices that are fitted when all of the upper or lower teeth, or both, are missing. They replace all natural teeth, and are held by the gums, though it is possible to have a full denture retained by implants for increased stability. A full denture is made from an acrylic base and either acrylic or composite teeth. A metal plate can also be inserted into the denture for increased durability.

Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures replace one or more missing natural teeth, and is held by the surrounding teeth and gums. A customised partial denture can greatly improve a person’s ability to chew and speak clearly, and may also prevent natural teeth from shifting into the space created by tooth loss. At Esteem Dental Care, we offer acrylic and chrome partial dentures:

Acrylic Partials

Acrylic partials are made of denture teeth attached to an acrylic base plate. Stability and retention (grip) come from the denture’s close fit against the gums and teeth, the use of metal clasps and a well-fitting base plate. Acrylic dentures are the cheapest and easiest to make, put in and take out. But they are less comfortable and more prone to breakages, so are usually used as a temporary replacement.

Chrome Partials

Chrome partials have a metal base plate that sits around the natural teeth, with the denture teeth being attached with acrylic. Stability and retention come from the metal framework gripping the natural teeth, so chrome partials are stronger and more permanent. They are the most comfortable to wear and the easiest to adapt to, so patients can wear them in good confidence.

Flexible Dentures

Most removable partial dentures are rigid due to the metal plates, though this may pose a problem for some patients. A flexible denture uses a flexible base that provides excellent aesthetic appeal and comfort. In fact, flexible dentures are almost invisible in that there are no metal clasps and the flexible materials blend in with the tissues in your mouth, so the only thing that can be seen is your beautiful smile.

Immediate Dentures

An immediate denture is used to avoid being without any teeth while you heal, after an extraction for instance. Your dental prosthetist will take impressions while your natural teeth are still present, and use these to make a denture in the likeness of your teeth or with any modifications you wish. It is important to note that follow up appointments are necessary as oral tissues may recede during the healing process and adversely affect the fit of the denture.

Implant Retained Dentures

Implant retained dentures are dentures that are secured onto a permanent dental implant, which offers the necessary support and retention for the removable denture. This allows the denture to stay in place while chewing and speaking, so you can have the confidence that the denture will not move in your mouth as you eat whatever you like.
